Migrate from WordPress to Sosta
If you currently run your establishment on WordPress and switch to Sosta, there are a few clean steps so nothing is lost. We walk through them together.
Your existing domain (e.g. deinhaus.de) is simply moved — visitors still land with you, just on the Sosta site instead of WordPress. When everything is in place you can shut down WordPress.
Overview of steps
About an hour of work, no tech background required. If you are unsure anywhere, write or call us — we help personally.
- Build your Sosta site (use the editor, move all content)
- Link your imprint + privacy policy (mandatory for DE sites)
- Check the preview — does everything look good?
- Switch the DNS record (CNAME to Sosta)
- Wait for TLS (5–30 minutes)
- Publish the site
- Download a backup of your old WordPress content
- Cancel WordPress hosting (no earlier than 4 weeks after going live)
Step by step
Build the Sosta site
In Sosta go to Website and use the editor. Recreate your content — typically:
- Hero block (greeting)
- About block (copy text from your old site)
- Setcard grid (shows your active workers automatically)
- Opening hours
- Contact form
Select the text on your old WordPress site, copy it, and paste it into the Sosta editor. Upload images directly in the editor — in Hero, Image, Gallery or About block click "Choose image" and drag the file in (or click to pick). We generate auto-optimized WebP variants for fast loading times.
Link imprint + privacy policy
In Germany an imprint (§5 TMG) and a privacy policy (GDPR Art. 13) are mandatory for every commercial website. Before going live you need both pages.
Go to Website → Settings → section "Legal + footer" and enter:
- Imprint URL: the address of your imprint page (e.g.
https://deinhaus.de/impressum) - Privacy URL: the address of your privacy policy
In most cases imprint and privacy already exist on your old WordPress site — the URLs do not change for now. Just copy them into Sosta settings. Important: after the DNS switch verify the URLs still work (if they were rendered by a WordPress plugin, you may need them again as static pages).
Do not let free online generators write one for you without a lawyer review — they are often outdated or incomplete. We are working on Sosta standard templates for the next update wave. In the meantime we recommend a short legal appointment (€200–400) specifically for the adult industry.
Check the preview
In the editor click "Open live preview". You see how the site will look — this URL is only visible to you (noindex for search engines). Walk through it like a visitor.
If anything is missing or wrong — back to the editor, adjust, check the preview again.
Switch the DNS record
Go to your DNS provider and switch the CNAME record. Provider-specific guides:
Wait for DNS propagation + TLS
After the DNS change you wait 15 minutes to 2 hours. Then in Sosta go to Website → Settings and click "Verify DNS".
Once verified, Sosta automatically obtains the TLS certificate — the HTTPS padlock in the browser. 5–30 minutes.
Go live
When TLS status is "ISSUED", go to Website → Go live and click "Go live". Your Sosta site is now reachable under your old URL — WordPress is no longer shown.
Ideally your visitors only notice that your site looks fresher and faster. The URL stays the same.
Back up WordPress content
Before you shut down WordPress: download a full backup. That way nothing is lost, even if you need something in 2 years.
WordPress export tool:
- Log in to WordPress admin (typically
deinhaus.de/wp-admin) - "Tools" → "Export"
- Select "All content" → "Download export file"
- Store the XML file safely (cloud + local copy)
Images + uploads:
- FTP access via your WP host (comes with the hosting contract)
- Download the
/wp-content/uploads/folder completely - Store safely (external + local)
Cancel WordPress hosting (not immediately!)
Even though DNS now points to Sosta — do not cancel your WordPress hosting contract immediately. We recommend waiting at least 4 weeks so that:
- You are sure everything runs at Sosta
- Cache-heavy browsers/networks have switched over
- You have time for corrections if anything is missing
After 4 weeks: cancel with the WP host to the next possible date (often end of month with 1 month notice — check contract details).
Move your email mailbox too?
If your WordPress hosting also includes email (e.g. kontakt@deinhaus.de): that is a separate process. Sosta does not offer email hosting.
Options:
- Stay with WP host: keep only the email tariff, let the domain point to Sosta. MX records stay with the WP host.
- Separate email tariff: e.g. Mailbox.org (DE, privacy-friendly), ProtonMail, Google Workspace. From €3–5/month.

Preserve SEO
Since your URL stays the same, almost nothing changes for Google. Tip:
- Briefly check Google Search Console to see that everything is still indexed
- If you serve your Sosta site with
wwwbut the old site was without www (or vice versa): enable 301 redirect in the DNS setup - Keep key content (about, contact) in Sosta too — so the Google index does not "lose" anything
