Set up a custom domain at Strato
How to point your domain registered at Strato to your Sosta website. Strato manages DNS in the domain management area.
What you need
- A Strato domain (e.g. deinhaus.de)
- Access to the Strato customer login
- 5 minutes of your time
Step by step
Open the Strato customer login
Go to strato.de and sign in with your customer number + password.

Open domain management
In the overview open "Domain management". At the desired domain click "Manage".

Open the DNS settings
Choose "DNS settings" (depending on the tariff also "Manage nameserver/DNS"). Here you can set or edit A records and CNAMEs.
On some Strato tariffs DNS management is only partially available. You need the full DNS management — if it is not active, have Strato customer support enable it.

Create the CNAME record for www
Set a CNAME record for the www subdomain. Enter the following values and save.

Strato does not allow CNAME on the main domain — so www is set via CNAME and the apex domain via an A record (next step).
Create the A record for the apex domain
For the bare domain without www (deinhaus.de) you create an A record. Values:

With the CNAME for www and the A record for @ your domain is reachable in both spellings. Keep both entries.
Save, verify, go live
Click "Apply settings". Then in Sosta go to Website → Settings, enter your domain and click "Verify DNS". Strato sometimes needs up to 2 hours for changes to propagate.
Once verified, Sosta automatically obtains the TLS certificate (HTTPS). Typically 1–5 minutes.
When the TLS status switches to "ISSUED", go to Website → Go live and click "Go live".
Notes & common problems
Strato updates its interface occasionally, so menu labels can change slightly. What always matters are the record values above: CNAME www → cname.sosta.app and A record @ → 72.60.83.165.
You only change the web records (A and CNAME). MX records and all email settings stay unchanged — your mail keeps working as before.
Most likely the entries have not propagated yet. Wait 30 minutes and try again. If it still fails after 2 hours:
- Check that the CNAME (www) and the A record (@) are really saved
- Make sure you use the Strato nameservers (not external ones)
- Test with

Let's Encrypt provisions the certificate every 5 minutes. If PENDING persists after 30 minutes: write to us at hallo@sosta.app with your domain — we check the TLS provisioning log.
