Set up your own domain
To make your Sosta website reachable at your own URL (e.g. deinhaus-müller.de instead of boutique.sosta.app), you add a DNS record at your hosting provider. You only need to do this once.
First: replace or keep your current website
That determines which record you need — and whether you need one at all.
Replace
Your Sosta page becomes your website. Visitors to www.deinhaus.de land directly on Sosta, and so do visitors to deinhaus.de via a redirect at your provider. The old website is then no longer reachable.
Keep
Your website stays as it is. Sosta also runs under its own address, e.g. sosta.yourvenue.com.
Nobody finds an additional address on their own. Your visitors still arrive at yourvenue.com. For the Sosta page to be used, you have to link to it from your existing website yourself — e.g. with an "Our team" menu item. The advantage over linking to our address: your visitors visibly stay with you instead of switching to a third-party portal. Beyond that, the record does nothing in this case.
How it works
At your domain provider (host) you create what is called a CNAME record. It says: "When someone visits my domain, send them to Sosta." Sosta then serves your website at your own URL. The TLS certificate is set up automatically — your visitors see the green padlock in the browser.
| Type | CNAME |
| Name / host | www (or another subdomain, e.g. sosta) |
| Value / target | cname.sosta.app |
| TTL | 3600 seconds (1 hour) |
An apex domain is the domain without a subdomain (e.g. deinhaus.de). A subdomain has something in front (e.g. www.deinhaus.de).
The simplest way is to connect www.deinhaus.de and redirect deinhaus.de to www.deinhaus.de at your provider. You can connect the domain without www directly if Sosta shows you two records for it under Website → Your web address: an A record pointing to the Sosta server and a TXT record that proves the domain belongs to you. An A record on its own is not enough.
Choose your host
We have step-by-step guides for six German hosts:
Hostinger
DNS in hPanel under "Domains" → "DNS".
IONOS (1&1 IONOS)
Classic DE host, DNS under "Domains & SSL".
Strato
Large DE host, DNS in domain management.
United-Domains
DE registrar, DNS records in the portfolio.
All-Inkl.com
DNS in KAS under "Tools" → "DNS settings".
1&1 (United Internet)
DNS in the control center under "Domains" → "Domain Center".
If your host is not on the list: the principle is the same everywhere – a CNAME record pointing to cname.sosta.app. Write to us at hallo@sosta.app if you need help; we will go through the steps for your provider with you.
Time until the switch is visible
DNS changes usually take 15 minutes to 2 hours to become active worldwide. With some hosts and in cache-heavy networks it can take up to 24 hours.
Once your DNS record is in place, click “Check” under “Your web address”. Sosta then activates your domain and obtains the TLS certificate (HTTPS padlock) automatically — usually within a few minutes.
In the meantime your website remains reachable at your Sosta subdomain — your visitors won't notice any downtime.
